No. 1 Ranked Trinity Defeat Eagles In NCAA Tournament

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles quest to make history fell short against number-one ranked Trinity University (20-0-0) with a 5-0 loss in the second round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday.

The Tigers held a 3-0 halftime lead and recorded 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of play. Ozarks had a couple of chances in the first half to score when a shot by Justin Goodman sailed wide at the midway point of the first half. The Eagles came even closer minutes later when a Jared Gordon shot hit off the post. Trinity would jump out of the gate early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute to take a 4-0 lead. Trinity out shot Ozarks 24-6 and had 12 shots on goal. Six different players had shots for Ozarks in the match. Goalkeeper Chris Schultz had 7 saves. Trinity University, located in San Antonio, Texas, advances to the regional championship on Sunday. Ozarks finishes the season having won their first American Southwest Conference championship and earning the school’s first trip to a NCAA championship tournament. Ozarks returns numerous lettermen next season and loses only seniors Ricky Herrera, Mike Guernica and Taylor Magee. The Eagles finish the season with a 13-8-1 record.
