Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior goalkeeper Neil Thompson was named the American Southwest Conference men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 165-pound Ovilla, Texas, product fueled Ozarks (1-3-0) to their first win of the season by recording a shutout against Sewanee Sunday. Thompson had eight saves in the match for the Eagles, who won 1-0 in the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational Tournament.
Thompson posted a 9-4-3 record with three shutouts last season and helped the team to the playoffs. He was named to the ASC All-Academic Team in 2009.
Ozarks will host Louisiana College September 16 and Mississippi College September 18.
