Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks senior midfielder Nate Abbott has been named American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced ASC Director of Media Relations Greg Weghorst on Monday afternoon.
The 5-8, 155-pound native of Pryor, Okla., provided Ozarks with stout defense and never left the field during the Eagles 2-0-0 week. Abbott also provided Ozarks with a scoring punch from his defensive position, netting the Eagles game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Missouri Baptist University. Abbott’s steady defensive play helped the Eagles to a 3-2 overtime road win against Hendrix College on Wednesday.
A graduate of Pryor High School, he was named the team’s co-MVP in 2002.
The Eagles will begin conference play this week when they host UT-Tyler on Friday and Concordia University Texas on Sunday.
