Mitchell Throws Three-Hitter In Win

Clarksville, Ark.-Andrea Mitchell threw a three-hit shutout as the University of the Ozarks softball team took a 5-0 win in the first game of a double-header against Hendrix College on Wednesday.

<#IMAGE:1#>Ozarks (10-11, 3-5) held a 3-0 lead after two innings of play, and that was all Mitchell needed as she cruised through seven shutout innings. She struck out three and did not issue a walk while improving her record to 5-8. Chelsea Joslin recorded an RBI in the first and Kara Bartholomew added her own in the second. Jessica Pianalto also crossed the plate in the second on a passed ball. The Lady Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh on a Brooke Grice RBI single and a Joslin RBI double. Hendrix struggled against the steady Mitchell, who only allowed three base runners. Ozarks notched 11 hits, with Bartholomew finishing 3-for-4. Stacy Simpson went 2-for-4. A two-out rally in the top of the fourth helped Ozarks to a 7-4 victory over the Warriors in game two. Leading 2-0 after two innings, the Lady Eagles??? first two batters got out in the fourth, but Ozarks had two hits and took advantage of one error to take a 5-0 lead. In the fifth, Kayla Mahannah and Danielle Dirks each had RBI to extend their advantage to 7-0. Bartholomew led the way on offense, finishing 2-for-4. Dirks had 2 RBI. Stephany Henson (6-3) earned the win after pitching seven innings. She had three strikeouts. The Lady Eagles will host East Texas Baptist University this weekend in a four-game series beginning Friday at 1:00 p.m.
