Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team suffered a four-game sweep against No. 9 Mississippi College over the weekend in Clinton, Mississippi.
Ozarks ends the season with a 17-23 overall record and a 7-17 mark in American Southwest Conference play. On Friday, the Lady Eagles lost 3-2 and 4-1. In game one, Ozarks took an early 2-0 in the first on a two-run double by Danielle Dirks. Dirks knocked in Kara Bartholomew and Jessica Pianalto. Trailing 2-1 after six, Mississippi College (34-6, 20-4) would rally in the bottom of the seventh and win the game on a two-run single, spoiling a five-hit effort by starter Stephany Henson (10-8). Henson had four strikeouts. Bartholomew went 2-for-3. In game two, Mississippi College starter Kayla Watkins (16-3) held the Lady Eagles’ bats to just three hits in the contest. The Lady Choctaws scored four in the third. Chelsea Joslin hit a solo home run in the seventh to cut the margin to 4-1. Andrea Mitchell went 2-for-2 at the plate while taking the loss on the mound. Mitchell falls to 7-15. Mississippi College handed Ozarks a 3-1 loss and a 9-1 defeat on Saturday. In game one, Mississippi College broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth after scoring one run on one hit. Ozarks answered in the top of the fifth with a run on a sacrifice RBI by Joslin. The Lady Choctaws would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Ozarks collected four hits in the game, two of which came from Bartholomew, who finished 2-for-4. Mitchell took the loss. In game two, Mississippi College jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and again Ozarks’ offense was held to four hits. Nicole Ashley had an RBI double in the second. Henson received the loss.
