Clarksville, Ark.-The Mississippi College Choctaws continued their substantial lead in the American Southwest Conference East division race with a 83-63 victory over the Eagles in Clinton, Mississippi, on Thursday night.
The Choctaws (15-2, 13-2) needed a late flurry in the second half to hold off the Eagles’ (9-8, 7-7) chances of comeback in a game that saw a combined 38 turnovers. The Choctaws held a 32-27 lead at halftime and then went on to shoot a sizzling 55 percent from the field and outscore the Eagles 51-36 in the second half. Ozarks did tie the contest in the second half at the 15:13 mark, but couldn’t take the lead from a deep Choctaw team that used all 14 players. Brent Johnson led the squad with 11 points and Habeeb Kareem contributed 10 points and a team-best 9 rebounds. Ozarks will travel to Pineville, Louisiana, to face Louisiana College on Saturday.
