Clarksville, Ark.-A trio of men's soccer players were named to the Kyle Rote Jr All-Tournament Team following their strong performances in Sewanee, Tennessee, September 7-8.
Senior midfielder Marcus Aldaba, senior forward Eloy Salgado and sophomore defender Travis Leach made the All-Tournament Team. Additionally, Leach was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the entire tournament. The Eagles (3-0-1) defeated Sewanee 1-0 Saturday and then came back from a 4-1 second half deficit to end with a 4-4 tie against Berry College Sunday. Aldaba had a goal and an assist against Berry. Leach also had a goal in that match.
According to Head Coach John Cossaboon, each player was instrumental in the Eagles’ success at the tournament.
“I thought Travis was by far the top defender there,” said Cossaboon. “He won amazing head balls and sealed up and organized our defense. Marcus was very consistent and worked hard the entire tourney. He was battling some injuries and toughed it out. Eloy played different roles during the match and was a part of great attacking moves.”
The Eagles will host Williams Baptist College September 14 and then travel to Memphis to face Millsaps College September 21 and Rhodes College September 22.
