Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O men's soccer team advanced to the American Southwest Conference championship match with a 4-0 win over McMurry University on Friday.
The Eagles will play Hardin-Simmons University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 3 in Clarksville. The winner of the match receives an automatic bid to the NCAA III tournament. Sophomore Ricky Herrera scored his nineteenth goal of the year when he found the net just two minutes into the match to help give Ozarks a 1-0 advantage at halftime. The Eagles would explode for three goals in the second half, two of which were scored by freshman sensation Daniel Faires. Faires, a Springdale native, also recorded one assist in the game. Senior Marcos Gonzalez scored with five minutes left in the match and recorded an assist off of Faires’s first goal at the 43 minute mark. Herrera recorded the assist on Gonzalez’s goal while Will Masterson had the assist on Faires’s second goal. The Eagles have now scored 91 goals this season and have allowed just 19. Ozarks improves their record to 18-2-1.
