Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior Matt Friant was named the American Southwest Conference Male Runner of the Week, the ASC office announced Monday.
Friant, from Conway, Ark., posted a 28:08 to finish fourth individually at the 8K Ozarks Invitational September 29. Friant was the first NCAA Division III runner to finish in the field of 48. He also helped the Eagles to a third-place team finish. Friant has established himself among the top runners in program history as he has earned All-Conference twice and been ASC Freshman of the Year. He has been a member of the ASC All-Academic Team for two seasons.
He is a graduate of Conway High School where he earned All-State and All-Conference during his prep career.
Ozarks will host the Arkansas NCAA III championships October 17.
