Sherman, Texas-The Lady Eagles rebounded from a disappointing game one loss to earn a 5-3 win in the nightcap against Austin College Thursday in non-conference action.
Austin College (2-14) set the tone early in game one as it scored seven runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 12-4 win. Ozarks (6-4) narrowed the deficit to 7-2 in the top of the third, but Austin College responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Reagan Littlefield had an RBI double in the third for Ozarks. Ali Mathis posted a two-run double in the fourth to bring the score to 9-4. But the Kangaroos again answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Victoria Lemieux went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Whitney Price (1-2) suffered the loss.
Game two went much better for the Lady Eagles thanks to a big hit from Mathis in the fourth. Trailing 2-1 after three complete innings, Shawnee Sorensen led off the fourth with a single. Molly Bowman then recorded a sacrifice bunt to advance Sorensen a base. Heather Roberts promptly delivered a single up the middle to score Sorensen. With the score tied 2-2, Sheridan Barajas kept the rally going with an infield bunt. With one out, Miah Williams roped a single to centerfield to load the bases for the hot-hitting Mathis. Mathis, who owns a .545 batting average, doubled in all three Lady Eagles on base to push the lead to 5-2.
Mathis went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Roberts finished 3-for-4.
Amber Rollins (4-1) received the win after tossing 4.2 innings and striking out nine.
Ozarks will open American Southwest Conference play this weekend when it travels to Longview, Texas, to face LeTourneau University.
