Clarksville, Ark.--Ozarks dropped a 14-7 game to Lyon College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play in Batesville.
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles (12-6, 1-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Lyon (20-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the third and four runs in the bottom of the fourth to hold a comfortable advantage. The Scots then added five runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 12-2. Ozarks rallied for two runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth but it wouldn’t be enough. The Eagles out hit Lyon 13-10, but committed five errors. Brett Hays went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI to lead Ozarks. Todd Koch and Tyler Gideon collected two hits apiece. Brian Heckmann had 3 RBI. Tyler Pickett (1-1) received the loss after pitching five and two-third innings. He had four strikeouts. Ozarks will host Austin College (3-12, 0-3) in a three-game ASC East division series beginning March 18. Ozarks will name its baseball field in honor of former longtime coach and instructor Lonnie Qualls in a special dedication ceremony on Friday. The ceremony to name Lonnie R. Qualls Field will begin at 1:30 p.m., just before the Eagles’ 2 p.m. game. The public is invited to the ceremony and the game.
