Clarksville, Ark.-LeTourneau University posted a pair of wins against the University of the Ozarks softball team Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

LeTourneau (13-9, 4-6 ASC) took a 6-0 win in game one behind a two-hitter by Kelsie Stephenson. LeTourneau broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth to earn a 5-3 victory in game two.

Stephenson limited Ozarks’ opportunities by not issuing a walk and striking out five in seven innings. The Lady Eagles (5-19, 0-10 ASC) best chance to score came in the fourth inning when Ali Mathis led off with a single. Kelsey Mefford then reached on an error to put two runners on. Casey Mays reached on a fielder’s choice, but Mathis was out on the play. With a runner on first and second, Stephenson worked her way out of the jam by forcing a pop out and then registering a strike out to end the threat. LeTourneau held a 1-0 lead after three, but produced three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Tabitha Porter (1-10) tossed three innings as the starter and took the loss.

In game two, LeTourneau opened the scoring with a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Ozarks eventually evened the contest. Colbey Russo singled in Molly Bowman and Mefford had an infield single to score Russo in the fifth inning. Trailing 3-2, Ozarks tied the game 3-3 when Bowman tagged a double down the left field line to score Michelle Pelley, who led off the inning with a single. The game stayed tied for only a moment as LeTourneau took advantage of three Lady Eagle errors in the bottom of the fifth.

Bowman finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Mefford (3-4) took the loss despite a solid outing. Mefford allowed just four hits.

The four-game series concludes tomorrow with a double-header starting at 1:00 pm.
