Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks opened their three-game American Southwest Conference series against LeTourneau University with a 9-3 loss Friday afternoon in Longview, Texas.
University of Arkansas transfer and current LeTourneau sophomore Garrett Methvin pitched seven strong innings scattering three hits and fanning 11 to pick up the win. Mathvin was charged with just one earned run during his outing. Ozarks (4-19, 1-6 ASC) scored one run in the top of the first, but LeTourneau (12-11, 1-3 ASC) quickly erased the Eagles’ lead by scoring five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Ozarks generated another run in the top of the seventh to trim the deficit to 6-2, but the Yellow Jackets responded with three runs in their next at-bat.
Six different pitchers saw time on the mound for Ozarks. Sam Brownwood (2-4) started and went five and one-third innings to take the loss.
The Eagles had just four hits in the contest. Brandon Brewer, Michael Prusator and Tony Morales each had RBI.
Methvin improves to 3-2 and now has 52 strikeouts on the season.
The series continues tomorrow with a double-header starting at noon.
