Clarksville, Ark.-U of O sophomore defender Lars Nyberg was named American Southwest Conference men's soccer East Division Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the two Eagles' road matches over the weekend.
Nyberg, a 6-4, 185-pound native of Georgetown, Texas, set the tone early for Ozarks, limiting Hardin-Simmons to a single goal in Ozarks’ 2-1 season-opening win August 29. Nyberg started in 18 matches last season and helped the Eagles (1-1-0) establish school records in shutouts (10), goals against average (1.03) and fewest goals allowed (21). Nyberg received Player of the Week honors once last season and was an honorable mention all-conference performer. He is a 2002 graduate of Georgetown High School where earned first team all-state honors and led the team to three state championship appearances.
