Clarksville, Ark.-Senior defender Lars Nyberg was named American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles (7-1-1, 3-0-1) to a key ASC road win over Austin College.
Nyberg, a 6-4, 220-pound native of Georgetown, Texas, led Ozarks to a 3-1 victory over Austin on Saturday in Sherman, Texas, and propelled the Eagles into the league’s third place position. Behind Nyberg’s defensive efforts, Ozarks owns the conference’s top overall winning percentage (.833). Nyberg’s defensive pressure regularly shuts down the opposing team’s top scorers by using his 6-4 frame to fend off would be goals. He has been a major reason Ozarks has given up only seven goals while recording four shutouts this season. ????? A three-time All-Conference performer, Nyberg has 64 career starts under his belt and has one goal this season. ????? He is a 2002 graduate of Georgetown High School where he earned First Team All-State and led his team to three state championship appearances.
