Lady Eagles Win Season Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-The women's soccer team won their season opener on the road over the weekend.

The Lady Eagles (1-1-0) opened with a 2-1 victory over Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. The Lady Eagles took early control of their match with Schreiner on Friday as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Junior forward Lindy Swatzell scored both goals in the match, hitting shots at the 36:19 and 29:31 minute marks. Swatzell, a native of Westwood, Kansas, finished the match with a team high 11 shots, including eight shots on goal. The Lady Eagles dominating the match by out shooting Schreiner 25-12. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Stratton (1-1) received the win. Freshman Kate Schoenhals recorded the assist on Swatzell’s first goal while freshman Ember Smith had the assist on Swatzell’s second goal. Freshman Nicole Simpson and senior Katie Lien each tallied four shots in the match. The Lady Eagles were unable to make a come back against Texas Lutheran University on Sunday after the Lady Bulldogs scored three first half goals. Swatzell led the team with five shots and Simpson had three shots. Stratton received the loss. The Lady Eagles will have two more non-conference games before opening conference play against Austin College September 12 at home. The squad will be traveling to Batesville to face Lyon College on September 6 and Conway to face Hendrix College September 9.
