Farmers Branch, Texas-The Lady Eagles softball team exploded for five runs in the fifth to break a scoreless game and pull away from Schreiner University 5-1 Saturday in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament.
Ozarks (5-2) had a hit in the first, second and third inning, but could not scratch across a run. That all changed in the fifth when the Lady Eagles recorded five hits. Ali Mathis jump started the rally with a single up the middle. Victoria Lemieux followed with another single and Reagan Littlefield recorded an RBI with a hit down the leftfield line. Another hit by Heather Roberts brought in a run to give Ozarks a 2-0 advantage. Three additional runs would cross the plate for Ozarks, two of which came from an RBI by Molly Bowman and Sheridan Barajas.
Ozarks starting pitcher Amber Rollins (3-1) kept the Mountaineers (0-9) off the board until the seventh. Mathis finished 3-for-4 and Lemieux and Littlefield each collected two hits.
Ozarks had a tough game in the nightcap as Mary Hardin-Baylor won 21-0 in five innings. Mary Hardin-Baylor scored eight runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second to put the game away early. Lemieux went 3-for-3.
Ozarks will travel to Sherman, Texas, to face Austin College March 7.
