Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles softball team banged out 11 hits and starting pitcher Kelsey Mefford threw a three-hitter in a 12-4 win over University of Dallas in the Wyndham Las Colinas Classic Saturday.
Ozarks (1-5) dropped game two 6-1 as it surrendered five runs in the sixth inning against Nebraska Wesleyan (4-0).
Against University of Dallas (0-4), the Lady Eagles scored four runs on five hits in the first inning to take command of the game. Kelsey Stephens had two RBI, while Heather Roberts and Colbey Russo each knocked in one run. Ozarks exploded for six runs in the third to go ahead 11-1. The Crusaders committed three errors in the inning and the Lady Eagles mixed in three hits. Dallas did get two runs in the final inning on one hit.
Stephens, Roberts, Sarah Otteman and Ali Mathis each recorded two hits. Stephens drove in three runs. Otteman scored three runs.
Mefford (1-1) received the win in five innings of work. She struck out five.
In game two against Nebraska Wesleyan, Mefford singled in Ali Mathis in the first inning to give Ozarks an early 1-0 lead. But the Wolves evened the score, 1-1, in the fourth. Ozarks ran into trouble in the sixth when it committed two errors and allowed five runs. After their score in the first, the Lady Eagles didn’t cross the plate again.
Mathis finished 2-for-3. Tabitha Porter (0-2) suffered the loss.
Ozarks will head to Farmers Branch, Texas, to play in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament March 4-5. Ozarks will face Mary Hardin-Baylor and Schreiner University March 4 and Sul Ross State and Concordia Texas March 5.
