Lady Eagles Softball Team Drops Two On Saturday

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team dropped a pair of games in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas, on Saturday.

Ozarks (0-4, 0-0) took a 1-0 lead against University of the Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-6), but the Lady Crusaders came back with a three-run second inning to pick up a 5-1 win. Brooke Grice scored Ozarks’ only run. The Lady Eagles did threaten in the second inning, putting a pair of players in scoring position, but were unable push them across the plate. Andrea Mitchell (0-3) took the loss. She struck out four. Schreiner University (2-9) got a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and then held Ozarks scoreless in their final at-bat to gain a wild 13-12 win on Saturday. Schreiner raced out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but Ozarks answered with a three-run third. The score wouldn’t remain tied long, as Schreiner scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 advantage. Grice doubled in two runs in the third and Kara Bartholomew stole home to give Ozarks a 3-0 cushion. Trailing 11-3 in the top of the fifth, Ozarks’ offense came alive. Chelsea Joslin hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot, to cut the margin to 11-6. Ozarks continued to display its’ offensive firepower in the top of the sixth and took 12-11 lead. Grice and Jodie Clark highlighted the sixth inning with doubles that scored two runs. That wouldn’t be enough, though, as Schreiner managed to score two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to gain back the lead for good. Grice went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI. Stacy Simpson and Bartholomew each had three hits. Joslin finished with 4 RBI. Mitchell took the loss after pitching two innings. Ozarks will host Eureka College on March 8 and Piedmont College on March 9.
