Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O softball team manhandled the visiting Westminster College Lady Blue Jays 17-0 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Hurie Field.
Ozarks (16-7, 7-5) pounded out 16 hits and scored a season-high 17 runs while limiting Westminster (0-11) to only one hit during the five-inning contest. It was the third win over the Lady Blue Jays this season for Ozarks. After building a 5-0 lead after three innings of play, the Lady Eagles exploded for 12 runs in the fourth to dismantle an injury-plagued Westminster club. Kara Bartholomew started the scoring fest in the fourth when she was the first to cross the plate after reaching on a bunt. In addition to Bartholomew’s single, Jodie Clark, Shannon Rainbolt, Kayla Reedy, Jamie Johnson, Erica Newell, Jeanne Randall and Devon Bottoms each had hits in the inning. Clark, Rainbolt and Johnson had two hits apiece in the fourth. The Lady Blue Jays never really threaten to score as freshman pitcher Chanceree Catlett struck out eight of the 18 batters she faced. Rainbolt, Johnson and Clark paced the Lady Eagles with 3 hits apiece. Johnson had a team-best 4 RBI. Catlett (5-3) received the win. Ozarks will host Mississippi College this weekend in a four-game series beginning with Friday’s double-header at 2 p.m. Saturday’s double-header is scheduled for 11 a.m.
