Lady Eagles, Eagles Edge One Game Closer To Playoffs

Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles (17-6), (8-3) and Eagles (13-11), (6-5) were both victorious on Thursday against East Texas Baptist and edged one game closer to a playoff appearance.

The Lady Eagles used another strong performance from their post players to outlast the Lady Tigers 71-64. The Lady Eagles can play host to the American Southwest Conference post-season tournament with a win on Saturday against LeTourneau University. The Eagles pulled out a 90-87 win in overtime despite being decisively undersized. An Eagles win on Saturday coupled with an East Texas Baptist win over Austin College on Saturday would send the men’s team to the post-season tournament for the third consecutive year. Christie Shuffield and Mandy Thomas each posted impressive numbers in the triumph. Shuffield finished the game with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. The 6-1 Dover native hit 8-of-12 (66%) from the field and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Thomas scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to go along with 3 steals. Four players scored in double figures in the Eagles victory. Mandrel Howell, the team’s leading scorer, paced Ozarks with 22 points in addition to grabbing a team high 11 rebounds. Brent Johnson scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Brian Henderson and V.J. Akers each scored 10 points. The Eagles were 29-of-39 (74%) from the free throw line.
