Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks Lady Eagles held LeTourneau University to 17 second half points and got 20 points from Sabrina Goddard and 18 from Lacey Phillips in a 66-48 win Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.
Ozarks (8-7, 4-6 ASC) led just 33-31 at the half, but the Lady Eagles came out in the second half and shut down the YellowJackets’ offense. LeTourneau (2-12, 1-8 ASC) hit just 6-of-28 (21%) from the floor while Ozarks’ defensive effort also forced 11 turnovers. The Lady Eagles also limited LeTourneau’s second chance points by grabbing 21 defensive rebounds. The first ten minutes of the second half went back-and-forth, but Ozarks eventually surged out to double-digit advantage. Goddard gave Ozarks a 54-39 lead with 8:36 remaining in the game. LeTourneau chipped slowly away, but a Phillips’ layup again gave the Lady Eagles a 15-point cushion. The first half saw five lead changes and five ties, with Ozarks biggest lead of the first half coming at the 6:57 mark when Goddard scored an inside bucket to make it 23-17.
Goddard made 9-of-16 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Phillips hit 3-of-6 from three-point range and pulled down eight rebounds. April Young led the team with 12 boards and seven assists.
Ozarks will travel to Tyler, Texas, to face Texas-Tyler Saturday.
