Clarksville, Ark.-A late second half goal brought life to the Lady Eagles, but Texas Lutheran quickly answered with a goal of its own to earn a 4-2 win in American Southwest Conference play Thursday afternoon.
Ozarks (0-8-0, 0-3-0 ASC) trailed 3-1 with less than twenty minutes to play in the match, but Erin Summerton netted a beautiful goal from 25 yards out to pull the Lady Eagles within 3-2. Summerton’s goal came in the 82nd minute, but Texas Lutheran (3-3-1, 2-1-0 ASC) wouldn’t be outdone as it scored in the 88th minute to seal the match.
The Lady Bulldogs scored in the 3rd minute for an early 1-0 advantage. Emily Gorham, however, scored in the 40th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Texas Lutheran would score just before halftime to gain a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Texas Lutheran scored in the 82nd only to see Summerton net her goal seconds later. With momentum on its side, Ozarks’ Morgan O’Neil nearly tied the match again with a shot on goal that Texas Lutheran goalkeeper Devin Walton made the save on. The Lady Bulldogs then put the match out of reach with a goal in the 88th minute. Ozarks did play a better second half as it recorded five shots.
Summerton finished with a team-best three shots. Mary Eoff had ten saves for Ozarks.
Ozarks will host ASC opponent Schreiner University September 22.
