Lady Eagles Advance To Tournament With Saturday’s Win

Clarksville, Ark.-For the second straight season, the University of the Ozarks women's basketball team will advance to the American Southwest Conference championship tournament following a 87-69 win over LeTourneau University on Saturday.

<#IMAGE:1#>The Lady Eagles (9-16, 7-13) will face No. 3-ranked Howard Payne University (24-1, 20-1) in Brownwood, Texas, on February 23 at 6:00 p.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Hardin-Simmons/Mississippi College contest on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Howard Payne will host the entire eight-team tournament since they are the number one seed out of the ASC West division. The Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Eagles 94-52 on November 25 in Clarksville. It is the second straight season the Lady Eagles have advanced to the playoffs, with Christina Jost accomplishing this feat in her first year as head coach. Ozarks held a 44-37 halftime advantage behind Mandi Carter’s 16 points. Carter was nearly unstoppable, hitting 6-of-7 from the field and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. At one point, Carter scored 10 points in a four-minute span. The second half saw the Lady Eagles maintain a double-digit lead the entire way. The lead reached 70-50 with 8:07 left when Chandra Briggs hit a shot. Lindsey Nietert increased the lead to 79-55 with 4:03 left after nailing a three-pointer. Carter moved into second place on Ozarks all-time scoring list, passing Lori (Myers) Hines. Carter now has 1,527 career points. Carter finished with 28 points and 8 rebounds. Erica Eneks added 20 points and Nietert had 12.
