Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior pitcher Kyle Hudson was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Thursday.
The 6-0, 175-pound right-handed Hudson got Ozarks (4-4, 0-0) out of a jam and picked up his first win of the season in Friday’s 2-1 victory over University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Hudson came in relief in the sixth inning with one out and one runner in scoring position and struck out two to halt UWP’s idea of a comeback. On Tuesday Hudson picked up his second save of the year when he shut down Hendrix College by forcing two outs in the eighth inning. In the ninth, the ace reliever had two strikeouts, a walk and a ground out to end the contest with a 9-6 victory. The Clarksville, Ark., native already has 11 strikeouts in just 6.1 innings of work. Hudson was named to the ASC All-East division honorable mention team in 2005.
