Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior first baseman Chelsea Joslin and freshman pitcher Stephany Henson collected American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week honors, announced ASC Director of Media Relations Greg Weghorst on Monday.
<#IMAGE:1#>Joslin, a 5-foot-8 Claremore, Okla. native, earned Hitter of the Week honors after setting a new ASC and school record with three home runs in one game. She hit a solo homer and two, two-run shots in Friday’s 16-12 win over LeTourneau University. Over the series in which the Lady Eagles went 4-0, the power-hitting right-handed hitter blasted four home runs and a double. She drove in seven runs and walked three times. This is Joslin’s second top weekly hitting award this season. Joslin etches her name in the NCAA record books along with 22 other NCAA III players that have hit three homers in a game. The current NCAA III record for home runs in a game is four, which was set in 1998. She ranks second in the ASC in home runs (8), fourth in slugging percentage (.722), seventh in total bases (57), ninth in on-base percentage (.469) and second in walks (14). Joslin is batting .367 with a team-high 23 RBI. She has a school-best 20 home runs in her career. She is a 2004 graduate of Claremore High School. <#IMAGE:2#>Henson, a 5-foot-4 Coal Hill, Ark. native, earned Pitcher of the Week honors after going 3-0 and not allowing an earned run over three appearances that spanned 16 2/3 innings against LeTourneau. Henson struck out nine batters, walked two and scattered eight hits during her time on the mound. She posted shutouts in both of her starts, marking the first time this season an Ozarks’ pitcher has done so. In Thursday’s 1-0 win, the right-hander threw seven innings and struck out three, and followed that performance on Friday by striking out five in seven innings of work in a 4-0 win. Henson owns a 2.91 ERA and a 9-4 record on the mound. She is a 2006 graduate of Westside High School. The Lady Eagles are currently 15-15 overall and 7-9 in the ASC East Division standings.
