Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks senior pitcher John Scheuring was named the American Southwest Conference East Division co-Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by ASC Media Relations Director Greg Weghorst Monday.
Scheuring, a 6-foot, 180-pound lefty from Bryan, Texas, was effective in four relief appearances as he notched two wins and one save in Ozarks 4-1 week. In game one against Clarke College March 3, Scheuring went the final one and one-third and fanned three to earn the win. He then came back in the second game to pick up a save. Against East Texas Baptist March 6, he was called on in the eighth with two outs and promptly fanned Kyle Pope to end the inning. After a lead-off single in the ninth, Scheuring worked his way out of a jam to end the game by forcing a double play to grab his second win of the week. For the week, he tossed four and two-third innings and did not allow a run while striking out seven.
Scheuring is 3-1 with 23 strikeouts in twelve and two-third innings this season. He was named to the ASC All-East Division Second Team last year.
The Eagles (7-10, 2-1) will host UT-Dallas in a three-game series this Friday and Saturday.
