Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior defender Jason Owens was named the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Tulsa, Okla., product paced a unit that allowed just one goal over two wins to begin the season. Owens played a key role in not allowing Central Bible College to a single shot and then limited Hendrix’s top two scorers to a combined one shot the next day.

The recognition marks the second time that Owens has won the conference defensive nod. He collected the honor the first week of the 2007 season. He was named to the All-ASC Second Team a year ago.

Ozarks (2-0-0, 0-0-0) will travel to Sewanee, Tenn., to play in the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational this weekend. The Eagles will face University of the South Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Birmingham Southern Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
