Clarksville, Ark.-- University of the Ozarks sophomore defender Jason Owens has been named American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced ASC Director of Media Relations Greg Weghorst on Tuesday afternoon.
The 5-11, 165-pound native of Tulsa, Okla., led the Eagles to a 1-1-0 record to start the 2007 season at the Nike Kick-Off Classic in Maryville, Tenn.
Owens shut down Piedmont’s Drew Griffin, the NCAA Division III leader in goals per game last season, in a 3-0 victory on Saturday. Owens followed that performance by limiting Maryville’s Zak Peterson to one shot on Sunday.
In 14 career starts, Owens has helped the Eagles record five shutouts.
A graduate of Union High School, Owens played for the Tulsa Thunder Club team.
The Eagles will travel to Conway to face Hendrix College on September 5 for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
