Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks women's basketball team couldn't overcome a 36-29 halftime deficit and ended the game with a 74-59 loss to Howard Payne University in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Ozarks remains in sole possession of second place in the ASC East Division standings. Ozarks (4-2, 3-1) tied the score at 23-23 at the 6:37 mark of the first half, but that would be as close as they would get in the game. Howard Payne (5-1, 3-1) controlled the second half and held a double-digit advantage for most of the second half. Neither team shot particularly well in the game. Ozarks hit 35 percent of their shots while Howard Payne made 41 percent from the field. The Lady Eagles committed 26 fouls in the game. ????? Freshman forward Shameka Hadley burst onto the scene with an 18-point, 5-rebound effort. LaTisha McCalister followed with 12 points and Mandi Carter scored 10 points. Senior point guard Lindsey Nietert had 4 assists. She is second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.20). ????? The Lady Eagles will host Hendrix College on December 10 in a non-conference match-up at 3:00 p.m.
