Clarksville, Ark.-Howard Payne held a 47-32 lead at halftime and went on to a 86-78 American Southwest Conference win over the Eagles on Saturday night in Brownwood, Texas.
Ozarks (2-3, 0-2) struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 33 percent, while Howard Payne (2-2, 1-1) made 60 percent of their shots. The Eagles held an early 5-4 lead, but it was all Howard Payne after that. The Jackets quickly established a 21-5 advantage with 13:18 left in the first half. Ozarks cut the deficit to 29-18 on a Habeeb Kareem layup with 7:06 remaining, but Howard Payne never let their lead dip below 11 points for the next 26 minutes.
Ten different players got in the scoring column for Ozarks. Kareem had his second double-double of the season after scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Tony Daniels scored 14 points off the bench for the Eagles.
The Eagles will travel to Conway to face Hendrix College on December 8 in a non-conference match-up.
