Clarksville, Ark.-Hendrix College overcame a 39-34 halftime deficit to take a 81-74 victory over the University of the Ozarks Lady Eagles on Tuesday night.
<#IMAGE:1#>Hendrix College’s Bonnie Hicks and Tori Huggins combined for 57 points and helped the Warriors (11-1, 1-0) out rebound the Lady Eagles (5-6, 3-3) 47-38 in the non-conference contest. The Lady Eagles held a five-point advantage at the half behind the offensive prowess of Jeanne Randall and Mandi Carter. The two combined for 22 points while shooting 9-of-15 from the field. A Carter layup with 5:53 left in the half gave Ozarks a 33-23 lead, but the Warriors went on a 11-6 run to finish out the half. Hendrix opened second half play with back-to-back baskets to cut the deficit to one point. Ozarks then answered with a 6-0 spurt, highlighted by an Erica Eneks three point play, to take a 45-38 advantage with 17:07 remaining. The Lady Eagles increased their lead to 52-44 on a Randall three-pointer at the 13:58 mark. However, Hendrix fought back over the next three minutes to tie the score at 53-53. Another Randall three-pointer with 6:32 left put Ozarks up 63-58, but the Warriors answered with a 11-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 69-63 lead. Ozarks got as close as two points the rest of the way, but were unable to take back the lead. Randall finished with a team-best 24 points and 10 rebounds. Carter followed with 19 points. Eneks added 12 points and Savannah Carter had 10 points. Ozarks will travel to Austin, Texas, to face Concordia-Austin on January 4 and then on to Belton, Texas, to face Mary Hardin-Baylor on January 4.
