Clarksville, Ark.-Hardin-Simmons University won its first game of the season with a 71-60 win over the Lady Eagles in American Southwest Conference play Thursday.
The Cowgirls (1-4, 1-3 ASC) held a 33-29 advantage at halftime behind a balanced scoring attack. Nine different players scored for Hardin-Simmons, which shot 37 percent from the floor.
Ozarks (1-5, 0-3 ASC) pulled within 49-47 at the 7:53 mark of the second half, but couldn’t get any closer. Hardin-Simmons then went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to push its lead to 58-47. Ozarks hit only 1-of-9 from the three-point line in the second half.
Ashley Hipps scored 11 second half points to finish with a team-high 16. Hipps nailed two three-pointers. Tamara Wilkett finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Taylor Farmer added 13 points. Kindra Davis had 10 rebounds.
