Clarksville, Ark.-A David Salas game-winning goal in the 87th minute lifted the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys to a 2-1 victory over the Eagles on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
Ozarks (9-2-2, 5-1-1) pressed hard on the offensive attack in the first half, but it was Hardin-Simmons (7-4-2, 5-3-1) who scored the match’s first goal in the 22nd. Ozarks took seven shots in the first half, including a rocket shot by Jared Gordon that Cowboy goalie Ryan Shaughnessy some how held on to. The Cowboys would hold a 1-0 lead at halftime, but that lead would quickly be cut short by Ozarks ten minutes into the second half. Lars Nyberg executed a perfect lob kick to Ron Hogsett, who beat his defender to the goal for his ninth score of the season. Nyberg, who would later chase down and knock away a Hardin-Simmons ball that was headed for the goal, received his first assist of the season. ????? The second half saw Ozarks hold a 6-5 shots advantage, but Salas would save the match’s most important shot with under three minute remaining to hand Ozarks their first conference loss of the season. ????? Ozarks registered 13 shots in the end, three more than the visitors. Hogsett, Gordon and Ryan Skelly each had three shots. ????? Ozarks keeper Brian Sarber had five saves. ????? Ozarks will host McMurry University tomorrow in ASC action. The match will start at 1:00 p.m.
