Clarksville, Ark.-U of O freshman center Habeeb Kareem was named American Southwest Conference East Division men's basketball Player of the Week after leading the Eagles (2-0) to a pair of wins over the first weekend of the 2004-05 season.
Kareem, a 6-4, 250-pound native of Richmond, Texas, averaged 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games in the Hendrix College Tip-Off Classic. Kareem opened his collegiate career scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against Hendrix College on November 19 and followed that performance with a 20-point effort against Rhodes College on November 20. Kareem was 18-of-24 (.750) from the floor for the two-game stretch. He is a graduate of George W. Bush High School where he averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game as a senior.
