Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks junior forward Habeeb Kareem was named the American Southwest Conference men's basketball East Division Player of the Week after averaging 22.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while guiding the Eagles to a pair of wins last week.
<#IMAGE:1#>The 6-5, 240-pound forward from Houston, Texas, scored 17 second half points to help Ozarks (2-2, 1-0) overcome an eight-point, first half deficit against ASC opponent Howard Payne University on Saturday. He finished with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-15 (60%) shooting from the floor. He went 7-of-8 (87%) from the free throw line. In an overtime victory against Rust College last Tuesday, Kareem tallied 19 points, including completing a three-point play late in the bonus period that gave the Eagles’ a one-point advantage. He finished with three blocks and six boards in the win. Kareem is sixth in the ASC in scoring (19.8) and twelfth in rebounding (6.8). Through four games, he is among the team leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage (49%), free throw percentage (82%) and blocks (1.5). He was an All-ASC East Division First Team pick a year ago. He is a graduate of Bush High School.
