Gordon Scores Twice; Eagles Head For Playoffs

Clarksville, Ark.-Jared Gordon scored a pair of goals in the second half to lift the University of the Ozarks men's soccer team past East Texas Baptist University 2-0 on Saturday in American Southwest Conference play and will receive the No. 2 seed in the six-team ASC playoffs next weekend.

<#IMAGE:1#>Ozarks will make their seventh straight ASC playoff appearance, and will receive a first-round bye. The Eagles will play Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of the Hardin-Simmons/Mary Hardin-Baylor match. Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, will host the men’s tournament held November 3-5. Gordon knocked one in for Ozarks (13-5-1, 10-3-0) in the 72nd minute on an Aaron Brueckner assist. Gordon, who has been among the top ASC goal producers all season, struck again in the 81st minute to secure the win. Brandon Cain set up Gordon for an easy goal to give him his 15th goal of the season. Ozarks’ offense struggled in the first half, but came alive in the second half, recording 10 shots. Ozarks ended the contest out shooting the Tigers (7-12-0, 4-9-0) 14-9. Gordon had a team-best 5 shots. Ozarks goalkeeper Brian Sarber had 5 saves. Ozarks will play host to Central Baptist College on November 31.
