Clarksville, Ark.-A pair of freshmen led the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 win over Schreiner University Thursday in American Southwest Conference action.
Freshman forward Alex Cannon netted her seventh goal of the season with a score in the 3rd minute of action. MaKenna Piha received the assist. Cannon easily beat Schreiner goalkeeper Rocio Carranza in the open. Schreiner (2-9-0, 1-5-0 ASC) did tie the match with a goal in the 5th minute. But Ozarks (3-9-0, 2-5-0 ASC) continued to attack the Schreiner defensive line and finished the second half with 14 shots. One of those shots came from freshman Stephanie Hiatt, who dribbled with a defender beside her and then ripped one past Carranza in the 62nd minute. Abby Kern gave Hiatt a perfect through ball to set up the goal. It was Hiatt’s first collegiate goal.
Ozarks dominated the match offensively as it recorded a 20-7 shots advantage.
Cannon posted a team-best five shots.
Ozarks will host Texas Lutheran University Saturday.
