University of the Ozarks will welcome its incoming freshman class on Aug. 20-24 with First Week, a series of events to help new students become oriented to college life at the University.

Ozarks is expecting approximately 250 new freshmen and transfer students for the Fall 2015 Semester. Classes officially begin on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

First Week, presented by the Student Life Office, will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, with the opening of the residence halls for moving in. There will be a welcoming ceremony for new students and their families at 2 p.m. and a president’s welcome picnic at 6 p.m. that evening.

The annual Matriculation Ceremony will continue to be one of the First Week highlight at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, followed by lunch for students, parents and the campus community. The weekend will also include small group information sessions, a closing ceremony, opening convocation and a variety of guest speakers and entertainers.

"There will be some traditional events such as Matriculation, but there will also be some exciting new additions as well as improvements to some old favorites," said Emma Curry, director of campus activities. "The many people responsible for recruiting students to Ozarks have outdone themselves this year to bring in a large and motivated group of students. Now we’re excited and geared up to welcome these students and get them engaged the right away."
