Pineville, La.-Tyler Erickson threw his NCAA III leading eighth complete game to propel the Eagles to a 5-3 win over Louisiana College in game one of Saturday?s American Southwest Conference double-header.
Ozarks (12-22, 4-11 ASC) dropped game two 4-2.
Erickson (5-5) now owns the school’s single-season school record in complete games after scattering seven hits over seven innings. The sophomore right-hander issued just two walks and retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. Ozarks trailed 2-0 after two innings, but rallied in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Nick Brill had a bases loaded RBI groundout and then the Eagles took advantage of a fielding error to score twice. Louisiana College (14-19, 7-8 ASC) evened the score in the fourth, but Ozarks scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on Brill’s RBI double. Ozarks added an insurance run in the sixth behind Freddy Prince’s RBI double.
Mitchell Powers went 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Wildcats scored a decisive two runs in the bottom of the first that proved to be key runs in their game two win. The Eagles did open the game with a run on a Powers RBI single. Louisiana College then scored once in the second to lead 3-1, but Ozarks scored on an error in the third to make it a one run contest. However, Ozarks wouldn’t score again in the game, while the Wildcats tacked on a run in the sixth.
Powers and Brill each went 2-for-4. Josh Stoffregen (0-3) took the loss.
Ozarks will host Central Baptist College April 17 in a double-header.
