Early Scores Push Eagles Past ETBU

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagle used a quick scoring offense and a three-goal first half performance to secure a 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist University in Thursday's American Southwest Conference match.

Joseph Lokang scored in the 5th minute off a corner kick from Shaun Renfro. Matt Engelman then followed with a goal 32 seconds later to give Ozarks (11-2-3, 6-2-2) a comfortable lead early in the match. Aaron Brueckner received the assist. Engelman nearly scored again when he hit one off the post in the 24th minute. Philip Johnson got in on the action as he netted a goal in the 31st minute to push the advantage to 3-0. Engelman was credited with the assist. At the end of the half, Ozarks held a 9-2 shots advantage.

The final 45 minutes saw the Eagles take seven shots while limiting the Tigers (5-6-3, 4-4-2) to three.

Ozarks will host LeTourneau University October 25. The Eagles’ five seniors will be recognized prior to the match at 3:00 p.m.

Game notes:
-Thursday’s win marked the tenth straight win over East Texas Baptist. The two teams tied 1-1 in 2001.
-Matt Engelman scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. It is two better than his previous career high of four.
-With 20 points, Ozarks remains in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. Ozarks has made eight straight appearances in the post-season tournament.
-Freshman midfielder Joseph Lokang has scored three goals in his ten starts. He has also produced three assists.
-Philip Johnson scored his fourth goal of the season. Three of his teammates also have four goals.
