Tyler, Texas-The Eagles were eliminated from the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament by virtue of UT-Tyler's 4-3 penalty kick advantage Saturday in Tyler, Texas.
A back-and-forth first half ensued as the Patriots (10-3-3) held a slight 8-7 shots advantage. Brian Sarber and the Eagles defense held UT-Tyler scoreless in the first half. Matt Engelman had a pair of quality shots in the first half, one of which forced Patriot goalkeeper Mark Oliphant to make a save on. The classic battle continued into the second half with neither team able to score. Anthony Santoro’s shot resulted in a save in the 74th minute. In overtime, Sarber came through in the 93rd minute with a save on Michael Kendall’s shot.
With the match ending in a 0-0 tie, Sarber booted the first penalty kick shot past Oliphant to set the shootout tone, but it was UT-Tyler that ended with the advantage.
Engelman had 3 shots to lead Ozarks.
Senior defender Dan De Hart and senior goalkeeper Brian Sarber were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Ozarks ends the season with a 14-3-4 record.
