Eagles Sweep Saturday’s Double-Header

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks baseball team swept LeTourneau University on Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.

Ozarks moves to 16-17 overall and 7-8 in ASC play while LeTourneau falls to 9-19 overall and 5-10 in league play. Anthony Brandon’s sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the sixth lifted Ozarks to a 2-1 win in the first game. Brandon knocked in Brian Heckmann, who reached base on a single. Brett Hays moved Heckmann to second on a sacrifice bunt and Robby Finnell singled to center field to set up Brandon’s game-winner. Brandon knocked in Ozarks’ run in the bottom of the first when he singled to left field. Ozarks’ starter Curt Dixon allowed just one run through seven innings of work to earn his fourth win of the year. Dixon (4-6) had four strikeouts. LeTourneau out hit the Eagles 6-4. Brandon finished with 2 RBI. Ozarks’ offense battered four LeTourneau pitchers for 18 hits en route to a 14-6 victory in game two. The Eagles jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning. Brandon doubled in two runs and Justin Brown doubled in one to give the Eagles a 3-1 cushion. Ozarks pushed their advantage to 11-4 after four when the Eagles cranked out five hits and scored six times in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Gideon’s 2-RBI triple was the highlight of the inning. Brown and Gideon went 3-for-4 and Jimmy Pannell went 3-for-5. Heckmann (2-4) received the win after pitching seven innings. He had four strikeouts. Ozarks will host Central Baptist College on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
