Clarksville, Ark.-Colby Woolverton scored 24 points and the Eagles snapped a three-game losing skid Saturday with a 81-68 win over Texas Lutheran University in American Southwest Conference play in Seguin, Texas.
The Eagles (7-6, 5-3 ASC) held the lead for the entire game although the Bulldogs (2-10, 0-8 ASC) did cut it to one-point on three occasions in the second half. But each time Texas Lutheran got close, the Eagles answered. Ozarks went into intermission with a 35-30 advantage despite 14 turnovers. Blake Mitchem’s dunk with 7:48 left in the first half gave Ozarks its largest lead of the half (25-14). Texas Lutheran trimmed it to 28-24 three minutes later, but Woolverton came right back with a three-pointer.
Woolverton came out in the second half and scored 17 points to keep the Bulldogs from taking the lead. The Bulldogs got within 37-36 at the 15-minute mark, but Woolverton answered with a three to put Ozarks back on track. Woolverton used another three-pointer to give Ozarks a four-point cushion after Texas Lutheran cut it to 51-50 with 10:05 remaining in the game. Following a pair of Mitchem free throws with 5:20 left, the Eagles let their lead slip to single-digits just once.
Mitchem had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Mark Perez added 12 points.
Ozarks will travel to Longview, Texas, January 14 to face LeTourneau University.
