Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks fought off a lightning delay and a pesky Missouri Baptist team in a hard-fought 2-1 win on Saturday.

Ozarks (3-1-0, 0-0-0) got a pair of goals in the first half, the first coming from Dylan Evans and the latter from Nate Abbott. Evans got his first goal of the season off a corner kick in the 3rd minute. Shaun Renfro received the assist.

Behind an eight-shot first half attack, the Eagles pounded the ball at Missouri Baptist and eventually scored the game-winner when Abbott collected his first goal of the year in the 38th minute. Brandon Cain set up Abbott’s goal to receive his second assist of the season.

Missouri Baptist would finish the match’s scoring when they connected on a goal in the 41st minute.

Following a 15-minute lightning delay to begin the final 45 minutes, Ozarks shut down the Spartans in the second half, holding them to just three shots.

The Eagles out shot the visitors 14-8. Evans finished with a team-best three shots.

Ozarks will host Central Bible College on September 10 at 4:00 p.m.
