Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles opened their season with a convincing 4-0 win over Central Bible College on Saturday afternoon at Hurie Field.

The Eagles (1-0-0, 0-0-0) proved to be too much for the visitors as they cranked out 41 shots, just four shots away from tying the school record of 45 set last season against Louisiana College. Of the 41 shots in Saturday’s non-conference game, 20 were shots on goal. Junior forward Jared Gordon broke a 0-0 tie in the 19th minute when he scored on a pass from Ryan Skelly. Senior forward Ron Hogsett followed with a goal in the 35th minute to give Ozarks a 2-0 advantage at the half. Darren Clark set up the goal with his first assist of the season. A relentless first half offensive attack saw the Eagles record 23 shots. ????? Ozarks came out firing in the final 45 minutes and scored again in the 62nd minute on Jason Caskey’s penalty kick. Hogsett found the net in the 70th minute on another penalty kick to give Ozarks a commanding 4-0 lead. The Spartans (0-1-0, 0-0-0) never really threatened in the match due to a swarming Ozarks’ defense that allowed only two shots while maintaining possession for most of the day. ????? Hogsett had a team-best nine shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Jeffrey Enevoldsen started the match and was relieved in the second half by freshman Brian Sarber. No saves were recorded for the Eagles. ????? Ozarks will host Harding University on September 6 at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.
