Eagles Go 1-2 Against Austin College

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles ended their three-game series against American Southwest Conference opponent Austin College over the weekend with a 1-2 record in Sherman, Texas.

The Eagles gained a 6-5 come-from-behind win against Austin College (3-19, 3-7) in 11 innings of play on March 26. Clint Phifer recorded the game-winning RBI on Friday when Caleb Hilton crossed the plate after he reached base with a walk. The Eagles took a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but the Kangaroos scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the contest. Brett Hays and Clint Phifer each had two hits in the win. Phifer had 3 RBI. Kyle Hudson (4-1) received the win after pitching 4 and two-thirds innings. Hudson had four strikeouts. Ozarks dropped both games on Saturday, losing the first contest 9-12 and the second contest 5-6. In game one, the Eagles held a 9-3 advantage in the top of the fifth inning, but Austin would score five in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the win. Ozarks had four hits in their five-run fifth inning. Kerry Shirley had two RBI in the inning. Hilton and Rusty Farren each had two hits in the game. John Burgess (0-1) received the loss. Austin College came back from a 5-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win in the second game on Saturday. Trailing 3-4 going into the top of the fifth, Ozarks took a 5-4 lead after Phifer and Justin Brown scored on a Anthony Brandon single to center field. The Kangaroos, however, score twice in their final at-bat to seal the win. Brandon led the team with two hits. Hudson received the loss. Ozarks will host East Texas Baptist in a three-game series beginning on April 2 with a nine-inning game at 2 p.m.. The series will continue on April 3 with a double-header beginning at 12 p.m.
