Clarksville, Ark.-Nate Abbott's game-winning goal in the 66th propelled the Eagles to a thrilling 1-0 victory over preseason favorite UT-Tyler on Friday afternoon in Clarksville.

The 2007 Eagles become the first Ozarks’ team to beat the Patriots (2-2-1, 0-1-0), who were picked to finish first in the conference preseason poll, and move their record to 5-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in ASC play. Ozarks tied UT-Tyler 2-2 in 2005.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles rallied in the final 45 minutes of action to gain control of the match. Ozarks out shot their opponent 8-2 in the second half and finished the match with an 18-13 advantage. It was Abbott though who had the biggest shot and his only shot of the game, nailing one from 25 yards out to give Ozarks’ momentum. It was his second goal of the season. Ozarks then limited the visitors to just two shots in the second half.

Ozarks goalkeeper Brian Sarber kept the game scoreless in the first half, making five saves, including a diving stop to his right that was at that point the match’s most exciting play. Sarber recorded his second shutout of the season and moves his goals against average to 0.69.

Brandon Cain, Darren Clark and Brandon VanCleave each had three shots.

Ozarks will continue ASC action on Sunday when they host Concordia University Texas at 4:00 p.m.
