Clarksville, Ark.-Brandon VanCleave scored in the 32nd minute and Scott Janders got the game-winner in the 41st minute to lift Ozarks to a 2-1 over Schreiner University in American Southwest Conference play Saturday.

The Eagles (9-4-1, 5-3-1) created a number of shots in the first half, including three that either hit the crossbar or the post, to go along with seven corner kicks. A Janders’ header early in the match hit the crossbar and a Dylan Evans’ shot in the 17th minute hit the post. Ozarks continued to put pressure on the Schreiner (6-3-3, 4-2-3) defense as Shaun Renfro lofted a free kick to Philip Johnson in the box, but goalkeeper Matt Johnson made a nice save on Johnson’s left-footed shot. A VanCleave left-footed shot in the 30th minute hit the crossbar to keep the match scoreless. Just seconds later, VanCleave wouldn’t be denied as he found the back of the net in the 31st minute, giving Ozarks a 1-0 advantage. The assist came from Johnson. Schreiner wasted little time answering Ozarks as it scored only fifty seconds later to even the score. Janders got the game-winner in the 41st minute when Renfro lofted another free kick into the box and Janders put it away. Late in the match, another Ozarks’ shot hit the crossbar, this one coming from VanCleave. Schreiner played a man down the entire second half.

Ozarks owned a 15-8 shots advantage in the match. Janders and VanCleave each had four shots.

Neil Thompson had two saves in the win.

Ozarks will travel to Marshall, Texas, to face East Texas Baptist University October 23 and then to Longview, Texas, to face LeTourneau University October 24.
