Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles turned in their best offensive performances of the season with a 5-0 and a 3-0 win in home matches over the weekend.
The Eagles exploded for five goals against Rust College on Saturday, September 14. Junior forward Ricky Herrera scored two goals, marking the second time this season he has accomplished that feat. Herrera’s first score came off a Daniel Faires’ assist at the 3:00 minute mark. Herrera blasted his second goal at the 19th minute. Before Herrera’s second goal, senior midfielder Will Masterson knocked in a penalty kick at the 14th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Ron Hogsett would score once more to put the Eagles at a 4-0 advantage at halftime. Freshman forward Malcolm Williams recorded assists on Hogsett and Herrera’s second goal. Sophomore midfielder Josh Edgmon scored the matches’ final goal at the 50th minute. Faires picked up the assist. Goalkeeper Nick Courtney picked up the win and had three saves. Against Lyon College on Sunday, September 15, Hogsett scored three first half goals to lead the Eagles to their fourth straight win of the year. Hogsett’s goals came at the 18th, 24th and 38th minute marks. He tallied five shots in the match. Masterson, Aaron Pierson and Lars Nyberg recorded the assists. Hogsett, a native of McKinney, Texas, has a team-high nine points on the year and is tied for the team lead in goals (4). Goalkeeper Chris Schultz recorded the win and had four saves. The Eagles open up conference play on September 20 at home against Austin College.
